  • A list of resources for editing digital media follows below. If you don't have your own computer, find out if your town has a community media center, public access tv station, or college radio station. At these places you can access powerful editing tools for free or for a small membership fee. Also keep in mind that analog tools like 4-track recorders can be purchased from on-line auction sites for much cheaper than software, and they still make great recordings.

Transom.org has lots of good resources for audio, including this article: Digital Editing Basics

Audacity is free, open source software for recording and editing sounds. They also have lots of editing tutorials on their website.

Ardour is a digital audio workstation for MAC and Linux.

Find Sounds is a search engine for sound effects and musical instrument samples

The Freesound Project is a collaborative database of Creative Commons licensed sounds

Sound Dogs is an on-line sound effects library

    MusicMoz Directory - sound files

Avidemux is a free open-source program for video editing and processing

Avid Free DV is a free, proprietary video editing program

The Internet Archive is digital library of audio, video, and other media
